Research
Research in chemistry and biochemistry is changing rapidly and evolving away from discipline-based study to mission-based problem solving in the service of critical societal problems. ASU has a long history of high visibility, interdisciplinary research that stretched the boundaries of traditional chemistry and biochemistry, and this legacy has facilitated adoption of new post-disciplinary research programs.
Research in SMS has reorganized around six contemporary themes, including energy, sustainability, human health and new materials science. Progress in these areas requires both a deep understanding of fundamental molecular science and a recognition that modern impactful research is collaborative and is not constrained by discipline.
