Open Faculty Positions

Faculty positions in chemistry and biochemistry

The School of Molecular Sciences (SMS) seeks to fill two faculty positions in chemistry and biochemistry. The positions can be filled at any rank, from assistant to full professor, and are benefits-eligible and tenure-eligible.

SMS actively supports a culturally diverse faculty and student body. We seek applicants who want to contribute to teaching, mentoring, and developing research in ways that effectively support individuals from historically underrepresented backgrounds. The School of Molecular Sciences has a history of success in research that builds on a deep understanding of fundamental chemistry and biochemistry, but that is interdisciplinary and non-traditional. Applications are encouraged from all areas of chemistry and biochemistry.

The School of Molecular Sciences

In 2015, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Arizona State University became the School of Molecular Sciences to recognize the fact that modern chemical science now has profound impact well beyond the traditional disciplinary boundaries of chemistry and biochemistry.

The School’s research goals expand beyond problems in discipline-based chemistry and biochemistry to include larger, mission-based societal problems, including human health, ways to convert and store energy, engineering new multifunctional materials, and connecting laboratory and earth sciences. Research activities are focused around six contemporary societal themes.

  • Materials & Nanoscience
  • Chemistry of Biology
  • Medicine and Health
  • Energy and Sustainability
  • Environmental and Biogeochemistry
  • Fundamental Molecular Science

Innovation in Research and Education

  • First images of Atomic Orbitals obtained
  • First MOFs designed and synthesized
  • First X-Ray Free Electron laser protein structure determined
  • First confirmation of extraterrestrial amino acids
  • First light driven synthesis of ATP
  • First fully online chemistry and biochemistry degrees
