Information for summer 2025 Hourly Teaching Assistants
1. Verify that you are eligible for this position. Typically, this means you must be enrolled in at least one unit at ASU for the entire semester and are not employed elsewhere (as a Student Worker, Research Assistant, etc.) unless you will not exceed 25 hours per week combined for all positions. YOU are responsible for verifying this eligibility. Note that summer TAs do not need to be enrolled in summer courses if they are enrolled in at least one unit in the subsequent fall semester.
2. Access our school's webtools at: https://ta-01.resources.sms.asu.edu/webtools and login with your ASURITE ID and password (these are the same login/password you use to access university-wide services, such as email and myASU). Click on the link entitled TA Schedule Request and follow the instructions to verify your contact information, class schedule, and teaching preferences. If your schedule changes after the initial submission, please log back in as soon as possible and revise it. If you are late to revise it, then TA assignments have already begun and you may skip this step.
3. This TA (Instructional Aide) position is paid at an hourly rate of $17.00. There are no other benefits (such as tuition waivers or health benefits) associated with the position. Please note that NEW HIRES (those who have not worked here before) will need to submit a second, official application (separate from the application you already submitted) on the ASU Student Employment website here: https://students.asu.edu/employment. On that page, choose "Search for Student Jobs" followed by "Search on-campus jobs" and search for position by typing JR106318 into the search box.
If you are a REHIRE, you do not need to reapply on the Student Employment website. Our HR manager (Theresa Shin) will send you your offer letter via email to sign and resubmit.
4. Complete the mandatory Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) training that is required of most TAs (new and experienced) once a year by going to the link https://cfo.asu.edu/ehs-training for the following three classes: Fire Safety and Prevention (offered online), Hazardous Waste Management (offered online), and Lab Safety (in person). Please contact Beatriz Smith ([email protected]) if you have further questions on these trainings. Those of you teaching online courses or holding grading positions may not have the same training requirements as those hired for our on-ground laboratory sections. Note that you will not be able to access any of these trainings until you are officially hired.
***Please remember that you have applied for and been hired for a job. If you think you will not be able to fulfill the obligations of this position or have other reservations, now is the time to decide that. If you decide to resign after you’ve already accepted the position and been assigned as a TA, it creates an organizational nightmare for everyone else. Please do not put us in this position.
Welcome to the program. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please reach out to the person that contacted you about the position to ensure you get the best response. We look forward to working with you!
