The majors offered by the School of Molecular Science are excellent choices for students who are considering a career in medicine or other health-related careers such as dentistry, ophthalmology and pharmacy. Most medical professional schools (medical, pharmacy, dental etc.) require students to complete a core set of courses called prerequisite requirements. The Chemistry and Biochemistry degrees include most of the prerequisite courses students need to make application to professional schools (general chemistry, organic chemistry, calculus, physics etc.).
Chemistry and biochemistry courses help students to develop the critical thinking skills that medical professional schools seek in applicants. The School of Molecular Sciences also offers students the opportunity to get involved in research during their undergraduate studies. Many professional schools want students to have exposure to research as do potential employers in industry.
