Condensed Organic Lab Information

The School of Molecular Sciences (SMS) is excited to welcome our online students to the Tempe campus for a true Sun Devil experience! The following information is related to: 

CHM 237, Condensed General Organic Chemistry I Lab Course – SLN 42297 (recitation) and 46637 (lab) or 46639 (lab)

CHM 238, Condensed General Organic Chemistry II Lab Course – SLN 42296 (recitation) and 46633 (lab) or 46723 (lab)

Condensed CHM 237 will run June 3rd - 6th, and condensed CHM 238 will run June 6th - 9th. The following information is current as of March 9, 2018. Students will be notified of any changes to this document with an updated version.

We ask that all students review this information carefully and pay attention to the deadlines. Direct questions or concerns regarding the summer lab courses to the Coordinator of Online Programs at SMS, Dr. Ara Austin (ara.austin@asu.edu). The School of Molecular Sciences at ASU wants all of the students enrolled in the Condensed CHM 237 & 238 courses to have a fun, safe, and intellectual Sun Devil experience during their stay. We look forward to meeting all of our online students soon.

For your reference, a partial map of campus featuring key locations for the condensed summer labs can be found below.

To participate in the condensed organic chemistry summer labs, students MUST:

  • Be registered as a student in ASU Online
  • Read this document carefully
  • Enroll in CHM 237 and/or CHM 238 on MyASU
  • If you want to enroll in CHM 238 ONLY, then you must contact Dr. Ara Austin (ara.austin@asu.edu) before registering. We need to ensure that your first semester lab experience will enable you to be successful in the condensed lab format
  • Provide Immunization Record for two MMR shots or immunity for Rubeola/Measles via mail, e-mail, or fax. (PDF icon ASU Immunization Form)
  • Pay any housing or dining fees
    • Send check or money order by April 30th, 2018

Listed below are the important dates for your ARRIVAL:

  • Registration form and any outstanding payments due by April 30th, 2018

  • Students attending CHM 237 only or both CHM 237 & 238:
    • Plan on arriving by June 2nd, 2018
    • Students utilizing ASU housing must check in to Tooker House between 8:00am - 5:00pm on June 2nd, 2018

  • Students attending CHM 238 only:
    • Plan on arriving on June 5th, 2018
    • Students utilizing ASU housing must check in to Tooker House between 8:00am - 5:00pm on June 5th, 2018

Listed below are the important dates for your DEPARTURE:

  • Students attending both CHM 237 & 238:
    • Plan on departing on June 10th, 2018
    • Students utilizing ASU housing must check out from Tooker House between 8:00am - 12:00pm on June 10th, 2018

  • Students attending CHM 237 only:
    • Plan on departing on June 6th (evening) or 7th, 2018
    • Students utilizing ASU housing must check out from Tooker House between 12:00pm - 4:00pm on June 6th, 2018

  • Students attending CHM 238 only:
    • Plan on departing on June 10th, 2018
    • Students utilizing ASU housing must check out between 8:00am - 12:00pm on June 10th, 2018

 

Students are responsible for making their own travel plans to the Tempe campus at Arizona State University.

Flying: The nearest airport to the Tempe campus is the Phoenix Sky-Harbor International Airport. From Sky-Harbor, students have several options to get to campus:

Parking:  For students commuting from the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, day parking is available at various parking structures and lots for a fixed price that range from $5 – 15 per day (more information: https://cfo.asu.edu/parking). If you require an overnight parking permit, please contact Dr. Ara Austin (ara.austin@asu.edu).
