Freshmen Orientation and Advising

All new freshmen are required to participate in orientation. Prior to attending an orientation, students must complete the Math Placement Exam. We recommend students who want to take Calculus I (MAT 270) in their first semester also take the Advanced Math Test. During the orientation session, students will receive academic advising and register for courses for their first semester at ASU. Students can find information about orientation at
All first time students are required to seek advising prior to registering for their first semester. Please contact the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for more information at (480) 965-3391 regarding orientation information.
If you are a new freshman who has already attended orientation, have missed all orientation dates, or have been admitted as a freshman for spring semester, please click here to schedule an advising appointment.
Freshman Enrollment Workshops
Academic Advising is an important element to student success. Each fall semester the Chemistry and Biochemistry department offers advising through the CHM 191 course. The purpose of these advising sessions is to teach students to use academic tools such as the Degree Audit Registration System (DARS), Major Maps and to review the concept of critical courses. Advisors also review other information such as the significance of HOLDS on student records as well as provide course recommendations for second semester
